From Kitchen to Care: A Culinary Medicine Experience
At UVM Medical Center, food is more than nourishment — it's a catalyst for connection, a teaching platform and a bridge to healthier communities.
Join us for an immersive, on-site culinary medicine experience where a chef educator and garden educator weave together their expertise — connecting food, health and growing into an integrated, lived experience. Rooted in prevention, whole-person wellness and a deeper connection to the soil and the food we eat, this work brings nutrition science into real life — through flavor, seasonality and hands-on learning that supports sustainable, meaningful behavior change and one’s optimal health.
What You’ll Experience
Experiential Tasting Demo: The Power of Flavor Participate in an interactive tasting centered around watermelon, exploring how layering, contrast and simple techniques transform familiar ingredients. Through guided tasting, you’ll experience how salt and acid sharpen sweetness, enhance aroma and bring balance — creating a more dynamic and focused flavor experience.
Guided Tour: Rooftop Garden Step into our rooftop garden and experience the awe of growing food above the hospital and reconnecting with the rhythms of nature. Enjoy a butterfly pea tea tasting led by our garden educator, exploring the vibrant colors and natural compounds found in plants. This space invites curiosity, connection and a deeper appreciation for the food we grow and share.
Program in Practice See how culinary medicine shows up across the system - from shared medical appointments and patient education to staff engagement and community partnerships — serving as both a care model and a powerful tool for connection, storytelling and change.
